this product did not straighten my hair at all, even if i tried blow drying it straight. waste of money, im sure there are some better straighteners out there..

This is discontinued anyway but I still want to review. the product did its job the only thing I didn't like was that it left my hair feeling kinda weird and it was more likely to tangle. It was a little sticky feeling (but dry) so its hard to explain.

For making my hair straighter, doesn't really do much. But if I want to make my hair wavy, it works wonderfully! Kind of an oxymoron but that's alright by me. It smells great too!

Like almost all Aveda products, this one smells good--fresh and natural. However, I don't think it does much for my hair. I went out of town last weekend and forgot my styling products and saw no discernible difference. Hang Straight doesn't make my flat-ironed hair any easier to manage or straighter looking. Kind of a mediocre product.

I was really surprised to read all the bad reviews of this product until I spoke with my hairstylist. She advised me that if the product is used and not followed up with a blow-out & flat iron it will actually increase curl in naturally wavy/frizy hair. I use this product on my thick, straight, frizy hair and have great results. I use it in combination with Aveda Mouse. If I am having a quiet day at home and not planning on styling, I use no product in my hair as directed by my stylist. continued >>

This stuff is ok, but just ok. It isn't a miracle worker but it does help my hair a little. My biggest problem is that it makes my hair feel really crunchy and just gross, it's also has a mattifying effect which is not pretty at the ends of your hair. I use this every so often but I doubt I would buy it again, there has to be something better out there.

I usually love Aveda products, and their hair products are especially great quality...except for this one!
    I really wasted my money.
I have fine, fuzzy, curly hair, and it made it even worse.
When I used it my hair was:
    sticky
    unusually dry
    a fuzzy mess
I do better to put NO product on my hair!

I have wavy hair that is prone to frizz. I've tried a good number of straighteners but I love this one. I use it on my hair before I use a straight iron and the results are great. I love the way it smells and it doesn't put too much weight and oil in my hair. I use this and Aveda's Smooth Infusion (for heat protection).
Occasionally I switch this product off with Phytodefrisant. I'm still deciding which one I like more.
I'm surprised the reviews aren't more positive for this!

This product does nothing to keep my hair straight. If anything it left it stringy with no volume and frizzy. I think they need to reformulate this one. I am sorry I wasted my money. I had to rewash my hair and restyle it with another product.

I'm surprised to see that some people don't like this - I have tight, curly hair and live in a VERY humid climate, and I get less frizz with this than with anything else I've tried, including the Davines Relaxing Fluid that gets awesome reviews (and it is a good product - this one is just better). It also doesn't weigh my hair down, even though it's fine and usually in the process of trying to straighten out my very stubborn curls, it gets flat with other products. This leaves me with volume, shine, and hair that doesn't react the humidity.
Don't get discouraged if your hair is still poofy and wavy after you blow-dry, mine was too and I was skeptical that my flat iron would help. But it did - a couple passes through, and my hair was stick-straight and stayed that way all day. Truth the told, I pulled this out of the back of my bathroom closet (I used to use it on my hair ages ago before I flat ironed) while I was waiting for my order to come in the mail of my normal product, and after using this, I returned it when it got here.

Wow, I was surprised at all the bad reviews. I have been using Hang Straight forever, I think as long as I have been using Aveda products. This is the best straightener I have ever used. I have very thick slightly course hair and this has always worked great on it. As with most Aveda products, a little goes a long way.

best straightener cream. doesnt weigh down or make hair sticky or oily. a dime size drop goes a long way. I have long thick hair and thats all I use. In conjunction with a hair straightener this is a great product and lasts. You will not be dissapointed!

While the price is high for this product the scent is wonderful which is similar to other Aveda products. I don't particular use this product to help straighten my hair since it is naturally pretty straight. What I do use Hang Straight for is to create a head full of wavy hair. The substance of the formula is light unlike usually heavy creams targeted for curly/wavy hair. The light-weight formula is great to achieve and hold waves with my normal to fine hair. I usually mix with Aveda's Light Elements Finishing Solution (which has been discontinued) for all day hold but touchable sassy waves.

My stylist used this product on me at the Aveda Institute, so I bought it to try it out for myself. I have really, really curly hair, but I can normally get it pretty smooth with a blow dryer and a round brush. This product made my hair puffy and it felt super dry. Not to mention that it offers absolutely no protection from humidity whatsoever. Plus the smell is a bit too intense for my taste. I've gone back to my John Frieda products when I want a straight style.

I really love this product and have purchased it many times. It helps to tame my wavy hair without weighing it down. I have really funky hair that almost defies logic--wavy to the point of curly and fine, and I have a hard time finding products that work. Many straighteners and serum get my hair straight but weigh it down. I also love the scent of this and most Aveda products.

Don't bother with this product. I have short and straight hair. My stylist recommended this product to be used along with the hair potion or any pasty styling product. I bought it because I thought it might help me to fight the humidity in the FL weather. However, this product smells horrible when it is used alone…it is probably herbal, but it smells like BO to me. I have to put on more products to hide the offensive smell. Also, it does nothing to humidity and it actually weights down my hair.

I am on my third bottle of this product and like it very much. I should mention that I have course, thick, unruly hair. I do not find the smell or consistency offensive as do some. The smell is pleasant, imo, reminds me of marshmellow cream. I suppose it is a bit sticky on the hands but not terribly so. I rinse my hands afterwards and my hair needs the moisture it provides. I have natural wave in my hair and I dry it straight with a good brush and dryer. If I dry my hair in sections, this helps keep it straight and smooth. It does not look dirty or greasy...even the day after. However, if you tend to have curl in your hair, you may need to straight iron like I do. I always straight iron the bangs and top and follow with anti-humectant pomade.

    Pros: Makes hair super straight.
    Cons: Smell, crunchy hair, static.
I'd been using Redken Outshine, which I love, but fancied something new. I washed and conditioned like usual. Used about a nickel-sized dab and combed through hair. It turned out shiny and straight, but smelled funny and felt crunchy and dry. I couldn't believe the static! I used silicone serum, John Frieda after-blowdry lotion, and finally some darn hand lotion (which eventually did the trick to get rid of the static). I haven't had a problem with static all winter and this is the only thing I different that I used today. Do not recommend!

My hairdresser used this on me and I loved it. I bought a bottle so I could duplicate the results.
The next morning, I woke up with greasy, crunchy hair.
I tried the product myself and only used the tiniest drop. Looked like I had drenched my hair in mattifying pomade. My hair didn't stay any straighter than usual, but just felt heavy and dirty. I took it back for a refund.

Should have read the reviews before I spontaneously purchased this from my hairdresser. I have a reverse bob and wanted a nice sleek look. Loving the smell of Aveda hair products, I thought I'd love this. It didn't add to a sleek look or even help with flyaways...it just added an extra step with a slight pleasant smell not even comparable to Shampure.
